In this image you can see that I was working on creating a running scene for my animation. I set the camera to look from a really low point of view so that the character seems bigger and when it jumps you can see from a behind point of view.

Final character Model

This is my final character model in its smooth view. I kept the character simple and made him look similar to the design that I created. I also only used simple textures because I liked the simple look for the character.

Animating

This is the scene that I create for my animation. I tried to keep the scene simple so that it matches with the characters style. The scene includes some terrain where the character will be standing on and the ocean surrounding it.

Project 2 Icarus.

Icarus falls to his death animation project.

For this project I will make Icarus fall to his death whilst following a bird too close to the sun and falls to his death. On his way to his death he tries to regain his balance but fails to and falls in the ocean. Icarus struggles to get back to the surface but the wings are too heavy and drowns him to his death. I will make sure that when Icarus follows the bird he looks like he is in a rush to show that he is excited to fly. Icarus will trip and then regain his balance when running with a smile on his face. he will jump off a cliff and he will fly high as the camera will follow his face from a bird’s eye view. Icarus will do few flips on his way up high and then he will be blinded by the sun. Icarus will lose his balance and slowly flip backwards and fall in the ocean as he is falling he will have his hand out towards the sky trying to regain his balance but he then quickly falls. As Icarus is falling the bird will follow him towards the sea  but then fly away as soon as Icarus falls in the ocean. When Icarus falls in the water he still has his hand held high towards the sky as he slowly drowns to his death.

When Icarus follows the bird there will be sad piano music playing in the background. When Icarus jumps of the cliff the bird will make a sound as she is surprised that Icarus followed and rocks will fall of the cliff and make a sound that the rocks fell in the water. Then whilst Icarus is flying after the bird the music gets louder and then it suddenly stops when Icarus gets close to the sun and there will be a shine sound that will almost sound as if Icarus was hit. Finally we hear screams as Icarus falls to his death whilst the piano music playing in the background.

This is how I created the wings, I used the reference image and traced over with simple rectangles to create the wings.

In this image I was creating the wings for the character. I tried to keep the wings as simple as possible because if I move the character I don’t want the wings to deform.

In this image I’m trying to create my model using the reference image that I drew before. I yet have to combine each body part together, the reason I created each body part separately is because I found it easier to work with.

This is the character that I think looks interesting for my animation because he has a really normal human bodies but also this cartoon head.

Icarus Design

This is the design that I got the most positive feedback from because he looks so simple and fits the description of what Icarus looked like. The style is simple which makes it easy to look at because its not too complicated. This also means that I can model the character easier.

Here is another part of the storyboard that I created where we have Icarus jump of the cliff to fly. I really wanted to show that he was thinking that he is about to jump of the cliff.

Clothing

In this scene I was thinking that maybe the character would have his hands behind him as his wings take him in the air.

Here I was using a already created model that has been rigged to experiment animating. I was trying to pretend the character had wings and what pose he should make before take of.

Reference Images Cliffs

The idea of the coral is good but I was also thinking of a rocky cliff that the character would jump from. The story of Icarus is about him jumping of a cliff there for I want to include the same idea.

Reference Underwater

Whilst looking and some of these reference images I was thinking that the character in my animation should be standing on a coral rock that is almost formed like an Iceland. Then the character would fly from.

Falling underwater Reference

In my animation I’m thinking that the character should down to death or die front the fall damage and float away in the ocean. These are some of the reference images that I got the idea from.

I really like the fact that you can see from the bottom of the ocean towards the character and the way the frame is organised.

Character Reference

When I was creating my Icarus character I had a look at different body proportions so that I can decide what style the character will have and if he is going to be big or small.

These are some reference images I was using whilst creating my character.

I really liked the body proportions of the model figures and I was thinking to use the skinny almost perfect body for my character model.

Gods Reference

When I was creating my Icarus character I was using Mercury as reference. I  used mercury as reference for my character because he looks like a typical Greek god but also because I liked how he has wings to fly too.

I also thought the similarities between the two characters was interesting how they both use artificial wings to fly.

Transformers

IronHide final leap scene:

This scene used slow-motion to create a dramatic perspective to show how the robot changed form from a vehicle to a mech. This scene also has a camera looking up at the mech transform in mid-air whilst he leaps to save the main character’s girlfriend. Secondly the scene also includes a lot of smoke from the battle because of all the destruction that the enemy has caused. This scene has a really high light source that hits from above all the time that gives the looks like its daytime. I liked the scene because it looks dynamic and it’s full of action, there is also military forces and distraction in the background as well as the main character’s fight. The scene goes at a fast pace because of all the chaos and creates a tension atmosphere because the main characters are always in danger.

Transformers bumblebee transformation scene:

I picked this scene because this is where the story starts to get interesting as bumblebee first transforms into a mech and reveals his true identity to the main character. This scene had really good camera angle because when bumblebee transformed into the mech the camera was focused on the ground where the main character was. As bumblebee transformed the camera was moving up but once he transformed the camera came back down on the main character. This scene is interesting because it took place at night and the mech and a lamp post kept the light on the main character.
